Hotel Review: Phoenix Hotel - San Francisco, CA

Phoenix Hotel

I tried to find an image that most closely relates to how the Phoenix Hotel looks in person, but unfortunately all the images online are done by a very good photographer. If the picture above is what you are expecting, you are going to be sorely disappointed. And to say that this hotel is in a rough area is putting it litely. This hotel is in the worst slum in San Francisco, called the Tenderloin. I just wanted to get that out of the way before we start the review, if you are turned off by these two facts then stop reading, if you are still intrigued read on!

I have stayed at this hotel twice in my life, and convinced my friends to stay there at one other time. I may be on the more fearless side, but this hotel has some really great things going for it. First of all the Phoenix offers FREE PARKING, which is all but unheard of for hotels in San Franicso, and that fact alone is why this hotel is at least worth consideration. Second of all, they consistently have one of the best night-clubs in the city at this little hotel. Finally, if you are into music, this hotel consistently hosts musicians as they pass through the city, you’ll always find tour vans parked in the parking lot during your stay. The Phoenix is said to be a favorite of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
If you don’t mind the ghettoness of your surroundings, this is THE place to stay in SF (at least for the price). The one gripe I had with the hotel was that there was no way to close the windows, as they were little slats with air coming through the divisions. We actually had to move hotels because we stayed here in the middle of winter and almost froze to death at night.
